studying is an option, sketching is not.. |
Clockwise from top:
1. Avril Lavigne (First charcoal attempt!)
Started off with graphite pencil but it’s glossy sheen can never quite achieve the rich, dark tones needed to draw attention to certain features. So added charcoal.
2. “Prelude to a Kiss” movie poster (Graphite pencil)
I loved the emotion in the picture.. and somehow i love how the main features are sort of properly sketched in and the rest (hair) isn’t.
3. Random actor. (Graphite pencil)
One of my earlier sketches. If memory serves, it was my fourth sketch ever.
4. Annabelle (Graphite pencil)
A little toddler stumbling about one ay at the dining hall of the college I live at. That’s an apple she’s holding, not a ball.
Was using mostly my fingers to shade in 2. and 3. and started experimenting with tortillons and tissue (picks up too much graphite/charcoal but great for smoothing) in 1. and 4.
Oddly enough, my shading looks heaps smoother in 2. though it’s one of my earliest attempts. I wonder why?
